Satya Gunput Mauritian Fencer Received special Trophy from Oxford University UK

Fencer since the age of 13, Satya Gunput, Mauritian student 20 years at the University of Oxford, has
recently ranked third in the African Championships held in Casablanca fencing.

Note that it also served, in recent times, the British team of fencers 20 and under. While a special license from the International Fencing Federation (FIE) allows him to compete for Maurice, the young athlete is still awaiting the approval of the Mauritian authorities to carry official colors of our country in international competitions including the next Olympics in case of qualification.

Gunput Satya, who trains 20 hours per week while studying, is also captain of the fencing team at the University of Oxford. It has also recognized its outstanding sportsmanship.

The young student has gained experience by participating at the World Championships fencing of Catania, Italy, in October 2011 but also by participating since January 2012, other international tournaments where the plateau was particularly noted. Participants, Italians, Estonians, French and Qataris, who were there were among the 250 best fencers in the world.

By finishing third in Casablanca on 19 April, Satya Gunput were only two places to qualify for the London Olympics. However, given his immense talent, fencer Mauritius is currently receiving intense preparation coach of Hungarian origin, David Keszler, pending its participation in major tournaments including the Grand Prix, World Championships and Commonwealth Games , among others.

S’il est vrai qu’une licence spéciale de la Fédération internationale d’escrime (FIE) lui permet de concourir pour Maurice, le jeune sportif attend toujours l’aval des autorités mauriciennes pour porter officiellement les couleurs de notre pays à des compétitions internationales, dont les prochains Jeux olympiques en cas de qualification.

Satya Gunput, qui s’entraîne 20 heures par semaine tout en étudiant, est aussi capitaine de l’équipe d’escrime de l’université d’Oxford. Celle-ci a par ailleurs reconnu chez lui son esprit sportif remarquable.

Le jeune étudiant a gagné en expérience en prenant part aux Championnats du monde d’escrime de Catane, Italie, en octobre 2011 mais aussi en participant, depuis janvier 2012, à d’autres tournois internationaux où le plateau était particulièrement relevé. Les participants, Italiens, Estoniens, Français et Qataris, qui s’y trouvaient figuraient parmi les 250 meilleurs escrimeurs du monde.

En se classant 3e à Casablanca, le 19 avril dernier, Satya Gunput n’a été qu’à deux places de la qualification pour les Jeux olympiques de Londres. Toutefois, vu son immense talent, l’escrimeur mauricien bénéficie actuellement de la préparation intense de son entraîneur d’origine hongroise, David Keszler, en attendant sa participation dans des tournois majeurs dont les Grands Prix, les Championnats du monde et les Jeux du Commonwealth, entre autres.

Il est indéniable que les performances de Satya Gunput seraient plus visibles s’il était habilité à porter les couleurs mauriciennes sur la scène internationale.

LinkedIn has just acquired professional content sharing platform SlideShare for $119 million in cash and stock. We’ve pasted the release below.

SlideShare is a sharing platform for business documents, videos and presentations. SlideShare lets anyone share presentations and video and also serves as a social discovery platform for users to find relevant content and connect with other members who share similar interests. The company also has a huge enterprise following, and companies like IBM and others use the platform to curate content from all of their employees and partners on a branded page.

SlideShare users have uploaded more than nine million presentations, and according to comScore, in March SlideShare had nearly 29 million unique visitors.

SlideShare has raised $3 million in funding from Jonathan Abrams, Mark Cuban, Dave McClure, and Venrock.

The acquisition makes a lot of sense from a product point of view. SlideShare recently deepened its integration with LinkedIn, and the two companies have compared their relationship to Chocolate and peanut butter for professionals. We actually suggested at the time that LinkedIn should buy SlideShare. Perhaps they were listening to us?

LinkedIn (NYSE:LNKD), the world’s largest professional network on the Internet with 161 million members worldwide, today announced it agreed to acquire SlideShare, a leading professional content sharing community.

The transaction is valued at approximately $118.75 million, subject to adjustment, in a combination of approximately 45 percent cash and approximately 55 percent stock. Subject to the completion of customary conditions, the acquisition is expected to close during the second quarter of 2012.

Founded in October 2006, SlideShare helps professionals discover people through content, and content through people. SlideShare users have uploaded more than nine million presentations, and according to comScore, in March SlideShare had nearly 29 million unique visitors, ranking it among the most heavily trafficked sites for professional content.

SlideShare is also enabling the sharing of presentations across the Web; nearly 7.4 million presentations hosted by SlideShare are embedded across more than 1.4 million unique domains.

“Presentations are one of the main ways in which professionals capture and share their experiences and knowledge, which in turn helps shape their professional identity,” said LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner. “These presentations also enable professionals to discover new connections and gain the insights they need to become more productive and successful in their careers, aligning perfectly with LinkedIn’s mission and helping us deliver even more value for our members. Following the trend with Poonam Pandey, who once promised to go nude if India wins the World Cup, South Indian actress Nisha Yadav aka Ameesha Yadav have also decided to go semi-nude to support a low budget campaign of MumbaiWire to create awareness among people.

But this year, Nisha’s photo shoot campaign “BASH THE TRASH AND DAMN THE PLASTIC’ is an attempt to create awareness among people to not to use plastic material to avoid a flooding situation in the city and to get all the drains cleaned up before the rains hit the city.

According to her publicist, ““Nisha Yadav has shot some volatile photos which are part of an awareness campaign by MumbaiWire. Let us hope the people of Mumbai take it in the right spirit.”

Nudity and bare-it all trend have become common for small time actresses and models to grab attention and publicity, which in a way do not go un-noticed as Indians go for such glossy characters for few days making “their” objectives partly fulfilled.

The South Indian actress was earlier seen in the regional flick “Corruption – The Curse” which was based on Anna’s Hazare’s campaign against the corruption. And with her new ‘semi-nude’ venture for MumbaiWire, she is agitating to get Mumbai free from water logging during the monsoons.

Skywatchers take note: The biggest full moon of the year is due to arrive this weekend.
The moon will officially become full Saturday (May 5) at 11:35 p.m. EDT. And because this month’s full moon coincides with the moon’s perigee — its closest approach to Earth — it will also be the year’s biggest.
The moon will swing in 221,802 miles (356,955 kilometers) from our planet, offering skywatchers a spectacular view of an extra-big, extra-bright moon, nicknamed a supermoon.
And not only does the moon’s perigee coincide with full moon this month, but this perigee will be the nearest to Earth of any this year, as the distance of the moon’s close approach varies by about 3 percent, according to meteorologist Joe Rao, SPACE.com’s skywatching columnist. This happens because the moon’s orbit is not perfectly circular.
This month’s full moon is due to be about 16 percent brighter than average. In contrast, later this year on Nov. 28, the full moon will coincide with apogee, the moon’s farthest approach, offering a particularly small and dim full moon.
Though the unusual appearance of this month’s full moon may be surprising to some, there’s no reason for alarm, scientists warn. The slight distance difference isn’t enough to cause any earthquakes or extreme tidal effects, experts say.
However, the normal tides around the world will be particularly high and low. At perigee, the moon will exert about 42 percent more tidal force than it will during its next apogee two weeks later, Rao said.
The last supermoon occurred in March 2011.
To view this weekend’s supermoon to best effect, look for it just after it rises or before it sets, when it is close to the horizon. There, you can catch a view of the moon behind buildings or trees, an effect which produces an optical illusion, making the moon seem even larger than it really is.

Ferry Capsizes 103 dead and 100 missing in northern india

Army divers and rescue workers pulled 103 bodies out of a river after a packed ferry boat capsized in heavy winds and rain in remote northeast India, an official said Tuesday.

At least 100 people were still missing Tuesday after the boat carrying about 350 passengers broke into two pieces late Monday, said Pritam Saikia, the district magistrate of Goalpara district.

Deep sea divers and disaster rescue soldiers worked through the night to pull bodies from theBrahmaputra River in Assam state.

Heavy winds and rain hampered rescue operations, said Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Assam’s top elected official.

“I will be ordering an inquiry into the cause of the accident, but right now our priority is to account for every person who was on the ferry,” Gogoi said.

Around 150 passengers swam to safety or were rescued by villagers, said Saikia, who was supervising the rescue operations.

Divers and rescue workers with rubber rafts scoured the river early Tuesday in the search for survivors amid the floating debris, which was all that remained of the ferry.

Passenger Hasnat Ali told local television the storm tossed about the boat, and he and others who were riding on the roof were thrown off or managed to swim ashore before the ferry was dashed to pieces. But about 200 people were packed inside the boat along with cargo.

Another passenger told New Delhi Television channel there was no lifeguard or life boats on the ferry.

The accident occurred near Fakiragram village in west Dhubri district, about 350 kilometers (215 miles) west of the state capital, Gauhati, and close to where the Brahmaputra River enters Bangladesh.

The area is dotted with riverside settlements and small islands, and boats are the most common mode of transport. Most ferries are overcrowded, with little regard for safety regulations.

Mohan Lal, a senior officer with the Border Security Force, said 35 BSF troops were at the accident site on boats and used hand-held searchlights to search for passengers after daylight faded.

Lal said troops had located the upturned and broken pieces of the boat but were unable to lift them without a crane.
