We know that technology is growing faster around the world, scanners and printers are getting quite cheap, in that case making your own currency too is getting more cheaper for those who are doing counterfeit notes in Mauritius. Yeah are we proud about it that we are finally making our own currency at our homes….. Quatre Bornes portal here requests all those people of Mauritius, mainly tourists who are walking around the country please check and validate your notes before receiving them. Don’t be in a hurry to pick up those notes, else you might be surprised. The public is requested to exercise caution in the use of bank notes of Rs 100, Rs 200, Rs 500 and Rs 1000.
Indeed, it was brought to the attention of the Bank of Mauritius (BoM) as false banknotes are in circulation.
New bank notes worth Rs 200, Rs 500 and Rs 1000 with new security features have been placed on the monetary circuit in October 2011 in order to strengthen their security.
The public can keep abreast of these new security features that are available on the website of the BoM.
The Central Bank said that under Article 42 of the Bank of Mauritius Act 2004, any person found guilty of possession of Forged or Altered counterfeited currency notes or bank notes even found to be incomplete, is liable to a fine n ‘ not exceeding Rs 1 million and imprisonment.
