The latest hot news in quatre-bornes lately it seems, is the re-opening of NANDO’s restaurant after nearly 10 years. Situated at the ground floor of the newly refurbished wing of the Trianon Shopping Centre, the new Nando’s restaurant can accommodate up to115 guests at one go it seems.

But my goodness! I didn’t realize that Mauritians are still so much in awe of Nando’s unique flame grilled Peri Peri chicken. My colleagues and I decided to have lunch there today to celebrate our last moments together for this year, till we move on to our busy holidays.
After several unsuccessful trials to reserve our seats before we actually reach there, we decided to move on there at noon. To our complete surprise, there were long queues and the manager was actually telling us that we need to wait for almost an hour to enter. Damn damn damn, I said I came to eat that juicy piece of chicken in that awesome peri peri sauce, and EAT I WILL. We also discovered there that they don’t take any reservations!
But thank god! Our patience did pay finally. After nearly 45 minutes we got our seats and not even 10 minutes later our order reached our table. Yummyyyyyz! We actually forgot our basic table manners. Putting aside our forks and knives, we tasted that chicken wings with our fingers only! Ha! Oh baby that tasted heaven. KFC, you are in for a BIG competition!
Nando’s chicken is flame-grilled and not deep fried. The hot flames also burn away any fat that may have been left in the chicken which means that Nando’s chickens are lower in fat and cholesterol. For health conscious people like me, this is a treat! Nando’s resto is opened everyday and even on public holidays. On top of that, the latest KFC controversy will greatly affect the opinion of people on what to choose. KFC v/s NANDO’s? Depends on your taste only folks! But, I am definitely coming back to NANDO’s.

Some fact files about NANDO’s:
- Nando’s is a restaurant chain which was founded in 1987,originating from South Africa with a Mozambiquan/Portugese theme. It operates in 26 countries and on five continents.
- The restaurant is named after Nandie[citation needed], the son of Fernando Duarte who is one of the founders of the chain, who is originally South African. He and a friend, Robert Brozin, bought a restaurant called Chickenland in Rosettenville, southern Johannesburg, in 1987.This became the first Nando’s restaurant, which incorporated influences from former Portuguese colonists from Mozambique, many of whom had settled on the south-eastern side of Johannesburg, after their homeland’s independence in 1975.
- Customers can purchase a range of Nando’s branded sauces, sprinkles and apparel in major supermarkets like SHOPRITE.
